A round outdoor rug coiled from a single solution-dyed cord, in an olive green ground broken by silver-grey flecks. The fleck is spun into the yarn rather than printed onto the surface, so the colour reads as the depth of the material itself. One Continuous Cord

The rug is wound from a single unbroken rope, spiral-coiled from the centre to the rim. No spliced segments and no colour breaks along the radius.

Colour Locked in the Sheath

Pigment is carried in the sheath extruded around every filament, so colour runs through the full cross-section instead of being printed onto the surface where it can abrade away.

UV-Stabilised Rope

Light stabilisers are added at the extrusion stage to slow photo-degradation and surface chalking. The cord carries a three-year outdoor colour rating.

Non-Absorbent Fibre

Synthetic rope takes up no water, so the rug does not swell, rot or hold odour after rain, spillage or pool splash.

Construction, Explained

A coil rug is only as good as the way its row joins the next. Each element below is a manufacturing decision, not a decorative one.

Sheathed Filaments, Woven Closed

Every Textilene filament is encapsulated before braiding, so the braid face is a closed, smooth surface rather than the fibrous face of a twisted rope. Sand and grit do not lodge between exposed filaments, and the surface does not fuzz or pill under foot traffic.

Lies Flat, Stays Level

Coil pitch is held constant from centre to rim and each row is locked at even tension, so the rug lies flat on stone, decking or tile. No cupping at the centre, no lifting at the edge — furniture sits level and the rim stays down.

Stitched Row Lock

Every coil is stitched to its neighbour with a fine high-tenacity synthetic thread. The stitch runs inside the braid valley, so it is not exposed to foot traffic and grit cannot lift the rows apart.

Bound Outer Rim

The final coil is closed with a bound edge that follows the circumference, giving the rug a defined finish rather than a loose rope end that frays with use.

Low, Stable Profile

The low-profile coil clears door thresholds and furniture bases without a trip lip, and keeps the rug from riding up at the edge over time.

Why Textilene Rope Is Used Outdoors

Textilene is a sheathed yarn, not a coated fabric. A high-tenacity polyester filament core is individually encapsulated in a UV-stabilised polymer sheath before the yarn is ever woven, which is why the material became the standard for outdoor slings and mesh seating — and why it performs the same way in a woven floor covering.

Sheathed Before Weaving

Each filament is encapsulated individually, so there is no capillary path into the core. Moisture cannot wick along the yarn, and the rug does not hold water after rain or pool splash.

UV-Stabilised Sheath

Light stabilisers are carried in the sheath itself, shielding the polyester core from photo-degradation. The yarn resists chalking, fading and embrittlement under sustained sun exposure.

Dimensional Stability

The high-tenacity core keeps elongation low. Under sustained furniture load the weave holds its geometry instead of stretching, sagging or losing its coil pitch.

Abrasion and Flex Resistance

The sheath absorbs the friction at every weave crossover. Braid-to-braid contact under foot traffic wears the coating rather than the structural filament.

Chlorine, Salt and Mildew

The closed sheath is inert to pool chlorine and coastal salt spray. Because the yarn takes up no water, there is nothing to feed mould growth.

Non-Porous, Wipe-Clean

Soil sits on the surface rather than penetrating the fibre. Most marks release with water and a mild detergent, and the open weave dries quickly afterwards.

The practical result is a rope that behaves the same way on a pool deck as it does on a covered terrace: colour held at the filament level, no water retained in the fibre, and a geometry that does not relax under load.

Performance Under Outdoor Conditions

Sun Exposure

Colour is rated for three years of direct outdoor use. Because the pigment is carried inside the filament, sunlight degrades the surface far more slowly than it does a printed or surface-dyed rope.

Rain and Poolside

Water passes through the open weave instead of pooling on the face. The cord sheds rather than absorbs moisture, and air moves through the gaps so the rug dries quickly after a downpour.

Foot and Furniture Load

The braid cushions underfoot while holding a firm, level surface. Chairs and tables sit without rocking, and the structured coil recovers its shape once the load is removed.

What is Textilene, and why is it specified for outdoor use?

Textilene is a sheathed yarn: a polyester filament core is encapsulated in a UV-stabilised polymer sheath before weaving, rather than being coated afterwards as a finished fabric. Yes. The cord is solution-dyed and UV-stabilised with a three-year outdoor colour rating, and the fibre does not absorb water. For the longest service life we recommend lifting the rug during extended freezing conditions or where standing water persists.

How is it cleaned and maintained?

Vacuum or hose down, then work any marks with a mild detergent solution and a soft brush. The open weave drains and air-dries, and there is no backing layer to trap moisture underneath.

Can the diameter, colour and fleck be customised?

All three are made to order. Diameters from 60 cm to 120 cm are standard and larger sizes can be quoted; the olive ground, the fleck colour and the fleck density can all be matched to an existing range.
